- Don’t be afraid to re-write
Writing isn’t always the simplest to do. Inspiration doesn’t always strike at the right time. Whether you are a few chapters in or almost finished, if you need to rewrite go back and do it! You want your novel to be perfect. If you need to fix something, no matter how much work it is going to take, DO IT! Your book will be better because of it.
- Find great beta readers
Finding fantastic beta reader are an essential part of writing. No one I have even meant has come up with a masterpiece in their first draft. Finding people who will pull apart your book and find its faults before publication, can be harder than you think. Sure everyone likes to hear good things about their books. Critiques can sometimes sting a little, but in my experience those who have been brave enough to offer a critique, have helped to improve my work.
- You don’t have to take everyone’s advice
Although beta readers can be fantastic, that doesn’t mean you have to follow every suggestion. People’s opinions vary widely. Go with your gut. However, if several people are giving you the same feedback, then there is probably something to it.
4. Don’t give up if you get writers block.
Authors can get stuck when they are writing. It happens. Don’t give up. If you have multiple projects jump onto another one for a while and then come back. Jump ahead in the manuscript and write some scenes that you already have in your head. In my experience writers block eventually fades. Give it time and don’t get frustrated.
- Keep writing
If you want to become an author you need to write. Not every idea I’ve had has turned into a full novel or series. Some I shelve and come back to years later. The most important thing to do is keep writing. Continue trying out new ideas and see which one works.
I hope these tips helps. Writing is awesome, but can sometimes be frustrating.
Wishing you all the best in your writing endeavors!
