“Sorry happens after something bad has happened, after people have let it happen. It had become contemptuous to me, all these I’m-so-sorries.”

  1. Is this character/narrator supposed to be semi-educated? I think she is means the “I so sorries” are contemptible, not “contemptuous.” The people saying the “I’m so sorries” could be contemptible, or their attitude could be contemptuous. The the judgment should be about the speaker not the statement . What is presented is confusing to say the least.
