Writing is more than just a passion for some people. For them, it is their career, it is their whole life, and it is something that they are attached to in more ways than one. Although, for some, it is just something that they do to make themselves feel better, to calm down, to get their feelings out at the end of a long day, or it’s just something they enjoy. No matter what the reason is, having the freedom to write whatever you want, wherever you want is important. You don’t want to be in the situation where you want to write but you can’t, so in this article, you’re going to find some ideas about how to write whatever, wherever. Keep reading to find out more.

Pen And Paper

If you’re going to want to get writing when you’re out, or even when you’re at home, you might want to make sure that you’ve always got a pen and some paper handy. It might sound a bit strange to think about carrying a notepad and a pen with you wherever you go, but it can come in handy at the strangest of times. You might even be thinking, but this is the age of technology, who even hand-writes anymore? Some people prefer writing by hand than on any form of tech, and that’s completely fair. It feels nice to write something down, and then look at what you’ve written, especially if you have nice handwriting. But, it is also useful for if you want to get something down in a hurry before it pops out of your head!

We’re not saying that you should have stacks of paper in your bag with you at all times, but even something like a small A5 notepad will do the trick. Then if you want to, you can transfer these thoughts somewhere else later on.

Your Imagination

You’re going to need to have your imagination with you at all times. Without this, you’ll find that writing anything fiction is going to be very difficult. Now, obviously, it isn’t easy to leave your imagination at home if the rest of you is going on an adventure somewhere, but what we mean when we say you need this is to keep your mind open. Obviously, your imagination can flow at any time, but you’ve got to be open-minded enough to be able to receive, and then make sense of your thoughts.

Your imagination is going to lead you to some truly wonderful places in your life because that is what it is for! It’s there to break you out of the realms of reality and take you to new places that you and others who read your writing are going to love. So, make sure that when you’re out, or when you’re sitting on the couch at home, or even when you’re at work doing your job, you’ve still got your mind open so that your imagination can run wild.

Take Inspiration

The next thing that you’re going to need to be able to write is the ability to take inspiration from other things. For example, we’re not suggesting that the person in Starbucks with their laptop, doing that odd thing you despise, should be used to the letter as a character in a story, but you could take inspiration from this and turn them into something awesome. There are things happening all around you every day, and if you make sure to keep your eyes peeled, you’re sure to see a few of them. Taking inspiration from this is a great idea. Remember that at the end of the day nothing comes from nothing, and finding things in everyday life to inspire you is pretty great.

Use A Laptop

If you don’t want to use a pen and paper, then make sure you have something like Google Docs, or Word on your laptop. These writing apps make your life so much easier, especially if you can type quickly. The good thing about using pen and paper is that you can write at whatever speed your hands take you, and for some people, this is quicker than the rate at which they type. However, for some, their typing is going to be faster, and in this case, using a laptop could be beneficial. There are times where you just want to get what is in your head onto that page.

For this reason, it’s probably a good idea if you try to have this with you most of the time. Try to get a laptop that is lightweight enough for you to carry around on your daily adventures, so that you aren’t going to give your shoulder any kind of strain.

Have An Idea

If you’re going to write, you’re going to need to have some kind of idea about where you’re going. Now, some people are going to say that this isn’t true, and once you start writing, your imagination will just take over, but this isn’t always the case, which is why this is a good idea. We’re not saying that you’ve got to have a concrete plan from start to finish about what you want to write, but some kind of general idea about what direction you’re heading in is probably going to be beneficial.

It’s often the case that people start writing, get to the end of their initial thought, and then get stuck for where they should go next. You don’t want this to happen to you. You want to write and keep going until you feel like you’re all out of ideas, but you’ve got plenty down on the page. Instead of staring at a page that only has about five words on it.

Do A Mindmap

Mind maps are great for trying to make sense of your ideas. Because you might have more than one at a time and don’t know how to make sense of them. Writing them down in a way before you actually get to writing them into sentences is a great idea. It will help you connect previous ideas that you’ve had to new ones, forming a completely new thing to write. It can also help you to organize your thoughts so that you have a grasp on what you’re going to be doing.

Using different colors for this could be fun too. Grouping your ideas together into little subcategories by color should be helpful when it comes to reading and connecting at a later time. You don’t want to lose your train of thought just because you haven’t had time to sit down and do everything at once.

Use Your Phone

If you’re constantly on the go, but you don’t have a lot of room to take things with you, something that you likely always have is your phone. Don’t forget that there is a section on your phone dedicated to note taking, and you can also download apps that let you write on the go. This is going to be especially helpful for taking notes about the things that you see, or if you have a thought that you don’t want to forget. Now, if you’re going to use apps that require you to be connected to the internet, then you’ve got to make sure you’re connected to wifi, or at least that you have enough data. Look into something like smarty sim only to get some of the best data deals, so that you can write anywhere without having to worry about running out of data.

You might be thinking that your phone is a little small if you want to do more than just take notes, and it might be, but you’ll get used to it. The more you use it for this purpose, the easier you’ll find it. It’s like they say, practice makes perfect.

If You Can’t Wait…

We all get that urge to just get what we’re thinking down on the page the second we’re thinking it so that it doesn’t disappear. When this happens, you’ve got to be prepared, and by doing some of the above things, you’re enabling yourself to be able to do so. Writing is such a passion, that when you’ve got to do it, you’ve got to do it.
